Brownsville man jailed for elderly woman's death

A 26-year-old man is behind bars after he allegedly killed an elderly Brownsville woman in a hit-and-run DWI accident.

Brownsville police arrested 26-year-old Luis Daniel Cavazos under an intoxication manslaughter charge.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the accident happened off Morningside Road around 2 a.m. Friday.

Police said Cavazos ran off the road and hit 68-year-old Maria Elena Treviño while she was sweeping her front patio.

Treviño husband was also injured in the accident. Police said he’s recovering at a local hospital.

Police were able to track Cavazos down and arrested him after he crashed again further down the road.

Investigators believe Cavazos was under the influence at the time of the accident.
