A Southmost man is sitting in the Cameron County Jail after he barricaded himself from authorities Tuesday night.

The standoff lasted three hours at a home off Zinnia and Milpa Verde Streets in the Southmost area of Brownsville.

Cameron County Sheriff's deputies tried to serve a mental health warrant for 22-year-old Antonio Rodriguez.

He refused to turn himself in and barricaded himself inside the home.

Deputies proceeded with caution believing he was armed.

Chief Deputy Gus Reyna told Action 4 News that it turned out that Rodriguez was not armed.

No one was injured during the standoff.

Reyna said authorities will evaluate Rodriguez's condition and decide whether to take him to a mental hospital or keep him in jail.
