The much-anticipated “Winter Blast” arrived in the Rio Grande Valley late Thursday morning.
The arctic cold front arrived to the Valley around noon bringing gusty winds, drizzle and some rain.
The National Weather Service in Brownsville issued a freeze warning for Kenedy, Brooks Jim Hogg and Zapata Counties from midnight to 9 a.m. Friday.
Forecasters said light sleet is possible over coastal areas of Cameron, Willacy and Kenedy Counties Thursday night and early Friday morning.
Wind chill advisories are expected to be issued for part Friday through early Saturday.
Temperatures are expected to be at or below freezing for 11 hours early Saturday morning and 11 hours Sunday morning.
National Weather Service records show that temperatures in Harlingen fell more than 15 degrees in Harlingen between noon and 1 p.m. Thursday.
