A Brownsville man was arrested Sunday following an incident that wounded two people and left a third on life support.

Police said it all started as a heated argument between Miguel Casarez ,28, and his girlfriend’s family.

Casarez had allegedly agreed to drive his girlfriend and three other family members to a location, but along the way they began arguing.

According to police, things quickly escalated out of control and the Casarez kicked out the family members out of his car.

He then ran over Marlene Cedillo, 18, and her brother Alberto Salinas with his car before driving off.

Police said a passerby transported them to the hospital, but they only suffered minor injuries.

However Police added that Casarez returned to the scene, and after noticing that Cedillo's father was walking along the road, he then proceeded to strike him with his car as well.

“The impact caused major head trauma to the victim as well as a severely injured leg,” Lt. Orlando Rodriguez told Action 4 News. “At this point the victim is in life support."

After taking off from the scene of the crime, police say Casarez fled the city to stay with relatives in Weslaco.

Police tracked him down Sunday. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle.

Bond was set at $300,000.

Meanwhile, the man, Saul Salinas, 40, continued under life support as of press time.

Studies will be done to conclude Salinas’ chances of survival.

Should he pass away, charges against Casarez could be upgraded.
