A Hidalgo County jailer found herself on the other side of the law after she allegedly tried to get the sheriff's office to foot the bill for an off-duty injury.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño said investigators filed a tampering with governmental records charge against Jennifer Muñoz over the weekend.
The 23-year-old detention officer allegedly claimed she injured her right foot while opening a cell door manually on November 2nd.
Muñoz filed an injury report with the county but Sheriff Treviño said an investigation revealed that she actually injured her foot off-duty.
The jailer appeared faced a judge where she received a $10,000 dollar bond.
“Lying on a governmental form or record is a very serious offense,” Sheriff Treviño said in a written statement. “This case is compounded by the fact that Ms. Munoz attempted to defraud the County of Hidalgo on a false claim. Ms. Muñoz has been charged and will be prosecuted.”
