A Weslaco father is spending Thanksgiving behind bars after he forgot his baby inside a downtown bakery.

Weslaco police told Action 4 News that the father went into Marines Bakery off South Texas Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators said the man bought some things and then left without his baby.

The father returned to the bakery only to find police officers with his child.

The man’s identity has not been released but police said he’s facing child abandonment, possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication charges.

The man is expected to be arraigned on Thanksgiving morning.
