Charges upgraded to murder in Alamo case

An Alamo man is now facing murder charges after his brother-in-law died in the hospital.

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office deputies originally arrested Johnny Rodriguez on a criminal attempted murder charge on Friday, November 6th.

Investigators said Rodriguez allegedly shot his brother-in-law Oscar Ovalle in the head during a domestic dispute.

The shooting off El Gato Road and Village Circle south of Alamo.

Investigators said Ovalle was on life support at the McAllen Medical Center but died on Friday, November 20th.

Deputies said both Rodriguez and Ovalle have minor criminal records.

Rodriguez is expected to be arraigned at the Hidalgo County Jail on the new charge at 11 a.m. Monday.
