A San Benito truck driver faced a federal judge after he was allegedly caught with more than 6,000 pounds of marijuana in his 18-wheeler.
Border Patrol agents arrested Samuel Cavazos, Jr. at the Sarita checkpoint early Monday morning.
A criminal complaint filed in his case shows that a drug dog first alerted Border Patrol agents to something suspicious inside the trucker driver's 18-wheeler.
Authorities allegedly found about 6,006 pounds of marijuana stashed in a hidden compartment of the trailer.
The 32-year-old San Benito man appeared before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge Felix Recio in Brownsville on Monday morning.
Judge Recio ordered that Cavazos be held without bond until a Thursday afternoon hearing.
