A Weslaco woman is behind bars after she allegedly tried to smuggle 74 pounds of marijuana in her tires.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested Bonita Vincenta Garcia on federal drug charges on Sunday.

The 24-year-old Weslaco woman drove up to the Los Indios International Bridge in a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

A K-9 officer allegedly alerted customs officers to the presence of narcotics.

A search of the truck’s tires revealed 12 metal containers that had 24 bundles with 74 pounds of marijuana worth $74,000 dollars inside.

Garcia appeared before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge Ronald Morgan in Brownsville on Monday morning where she was denied bond until a Thursday afternoon hearing.
