Opening arguments and testimony started today for a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against a Harlingen police captain.

Police Officer Alicia Garcia filed a federal lawsuit against Capt. Ramon Vela and the Harlingen Police Department back in August 2006.

Garcia claims vela sexually harassed her and turned her down for a promotion because she turned down his advances.

The two faced each in court on Tuesday morning before U.S. District Court Judge Andrew Hanen in Brownsville.

Attorneys for both sides presented their arguments and took testimony from their first witnesses.

The jury trial is expected to last at least three days.
