A 58-year-old man is behind bars after being arrested for stealing four boats and a trailer from a South Padre Island company.
Cameron County Pct. 1 deputies constables arrested Edward Charles Martin on felony theft charges on Tuesday.
The 58-year-old man is accused of driving up to South Padre Island Boat Sales several times in a van and taking up to four boats and a trailer.
Pct. 1 Constable Horacio Zamora told Action 4 News that investigators found the boats and the trailer at a property belonging to Martin’s ex-wife in Weslaco.
Martin’s ex-wife told investigators that he started bringing the boats one day and provided no explanation.
Constable Zamora told Action 4 News that Martin was arrested for burglary of a motor vessel off South Padre Island last month.
Zamora said surveillance cameras allegedly recorded Martin stealing one of the boats in a van also found at his ex-wife’s property.
Deputy constables learned that Martin had been staying at a trailer at Isla Blanca Park on South Padre Island.
Zamora said deputy constables arrested Martin after he was done taking a shower at the public restroom around noon on Tuesday.
Martin appeared before Cameron County Justice of the Peace Bennie Ochoa where he was given $250,000 dollars in bonds for three state jail felony charges and two third-degree felony charges.
The 58-year-old man remains in custody in the Cameron County Jail.
