HIDALGO COUNTY, TEXAS -- A suspected human smuggler who abandoned two young children on the side of the road Saturday has been caught in Willacy County.

Adan Hernandez allegedly confessed to leaving the 1-year-old boy and his 3-year-old sister, both from Salvador, on Monte Cristo and Cesar Chavez Roads last weekend.

He told authorities the children's mother had paid him to take the kids to Houston.

Hernandez was arrested in Willacy County following a high-speed chase that ended with his vehicle flipping over.

Hernandez was sent back to Hidalgo County to face Child Abandonment charges Wednesday.

The mother and her children will likely be deported once the case if over.
