BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS -- The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has a new commissioner.

Governor Rick Perry formally swore in Carlos Rubinstein as commissioner for TCEQ in Rubinstein's home town of Brownsville on Wednesday.

Rubinstein said he is honored to be appointed to the position and will continue to work to ensure the public's safety.

"It's a great honor and also a very humbling experience for me," said Rubinstein.  "It is a honor the governor felt that I was qualified to do this and chose me to carry out this task.  It is very important for Texas.  I have been associated with this agency for quite some time and we've been able to work on a lot of the projects together.  Being able to be commissioner and also set policy that is protective and continues to be protective of the natural resources of the state is very important to me."
