HIDALGO, TEXAS -- An attorney in Hidalgo County attorney explained Wednesday why he is running for the Texas House of Representatives seat for District 36.

Sergio Muñoz Jr. hopes to fill the seat being vacated by State Rep. Kino Flores.

The 27-year-old Muñoz said he believes his years of experience and community service will help the people of District 36.

"Over the next several months, I plan to talk to as many people, community leaders, organizations and businesses that I can," said Muñoz.  "I hope to reach out to as many people as possible to learn as much as I can.  When elected, I will represent my district with new energy, fresh ideas and positive results."

Muñoz said he will work on projects that will hopefully attract investment, industry and resources needed for education.

District 36 covers Hidalgo, Granjeno, McAllen, Mission, Palmview, Peñitas and Pharr.
