A meeting is taking place in Brownsville on Tuesday evening to determine whether or not residents will see an increase in their property taxes.
The proposed increase is for 2 cents and would start at the beginning of the new fiscal year on October 1st.
The proposal increases the property tax from .65 cents per $100 dollars of taxable assessed value to .67 cents.
Mayor Pat Ahumada tells Action 4 News that the increase is needed to decrease the city's $5 million dollar deficit.
