BROWNSVILLE -- An overnight tragedy in Brownsville leaves an elderly man dead in his home.

Neighbors were shocked by the scene they saw Thursday night.

Flames shooting out of the home, belonging to 62 year old Wayne Louis.

The fire started around 10:30 p.m. and neighbors said they quickly ran outside and started hosing down Louis’ home.

When firefighters arrived they asked everyone who lived alongside him to evacuate to across the street, for their own safety.

Action 4 spoke to Sheriff Omar Lucio and he said that “the fire started in the kitchen and don’t know whether the man was preparing something or not but that’s where it started…the mobile home was completely destroyed and that individual was right behind the front door of the trailer.”

Louis was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Investigators don’t know the exact cause of his death but an autopsy has been ordered.
