A Harlingen adult day care manager pleaded guilty to receiving kickbacks in a Medicaid and Medicare fraud scheme headed by a McAllen cardiologist.
Martha Garcia Alaniz with La Familia Adult Day Care Center in Harlingen was indicted in May for receiving $200 payment from Dr. Fabian Aurignac.
The 53-year-old Harlingen woman would refer her Medicaid clients to Aurignac and his staff for fraudulent and medically unnecessary cardiac services.
Alaniz admitted to allowing Aurignac’s staff to take her clients into RVs where the false or unnecessary services were given.
The former adult day car manager appeared before a federal judge in McAllen on Friday where she pleaded guilty to receiving a kickback from Aurignac
Alaniz is expected to be sentenced on September 2nd at 2 p.m.
She remains free on bond but faces five years in federal prison and up to $25,000 in fines.
