A story involving Brownsville Fire Chief Lenny Perez and a rescued dog continues to unfold.

Perez is being accused of theft by some of his own men.

The firefighters rescued a dog that was brought to the fire station.

But given the potential health risk, the chief decided to give the dog to an adoption agency.

Firefighters reacted by filing theft charges against their own chief.

Perez told Action 4 News that as a medical director of Brownsville Fire/EMS, he must uphold the integrity and compliance of his license as a paramedic to provide the highest level of service.

He went on to say public perception of hygiene, cleanliness and infection control are the most important issues in today’s era of pandemics and infectious diseases.

That's why he wanted to find a more suitable environment for the dog.
