The construction of the border fence threatens hundreds of native Sabal Palms standing in the way.

Sabal Palms are the only native palm tree species to the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas.

There are only a few hundred acres of them left in and around Brownsville and other isolated areas of the Valley.

Althought it takes decades for the rare tree to grow its full size, it only takes a few minutes to pull it from the ground and prepare it for transport.

Paco Felici with The Nature Conservancy said officials plan to transplant at least 300 Sabal Palms.
