The nephew of drug lord Osiel Cardenas is behind bars in Matamoros where he is accused of running his jailed uncle’s drug cartel.
The El Milenio newspaper reported that Mexican soldiers arrested Mario Alberto Cardenas-Medina and three others on Monday.
The newspaper reported that Cardenas-Medina goes by the nickname “El Betillo” and is the nephew of jailed Gulf Cartel leader Osiel Cardenas.
Cardenas-Medina allegedly confessed to helping his another uncle run the organization in Osiel Cardenas’ absence.
El Milenio reported that Cardenas-Guillen allegedly receiving shipments of cocaine in the Playa Bagdad area and them moving north into the United States.
Details about the Cardenas-Guillen’s arrests were not available but Mexican army officials said he and the others were caught with grenades and high-powered weapons.
