REYNOSA, MEXICO -- Mexico threw a massive barbeque Monday, but it did not involve food.

Federal drug agents in Mexico set $35 million worth of drugs on fire.

Cocaine, pot, methamphetamines and several other drugs burned south of the Rio Grande.

The torching was part of a massive effort by Mexican authorities to destroy 22 tons of drugs seized over the last couple of months by Mexican army soldiers in cities like Reynosa and Miguel Aleman.

Meanwhile, drug seizures hit a new record in the Rio Grande Valley.

Last week alone, the Rio Grande Valley Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol confiscated mroe than $14 million worth of drugs.

Agents said that is an 87 percent increase from last year.
