RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS -- Representative Armando Martinez is teaming up with the Texas Hospitality Association to fight underage drinking.
THA is sponsoring two statewide poster design and slogan contests; one for high school seniors and a second for college and university students 21 years and older.
THA will award two $5,000 scholarships to the two students who design the best poster and slogan.
The theme for the high school students is "Underage drinking in Texas is against the law."
For the college, university and technical students the theme will be: "A beer, mixed drink and glass of wine each contain the same amount of alcohol."
The two winning posters will be distributed statewide to establishments selling or serving alcohol.
"Underage drinking is a situation that young adults find themselves in constantly, be it at a party or even at home," stated Rep. Martinez. "This scholarship will give students an opportunity to spread the word about an issue that impacts their lives every day."
The contest is open to Texas high school seniors and registered college and university students over 21 years of age.
Participating students will have until May 8, 2009 to design and submit their poster and slogan to THA.
