Rio Grande Valley businesses are bracing themselves and waiting to see how new tariffs in Mexico will affect their pocketbook.
On Thursday, Mexico increased tariffs from 10 to 45 percent on 90 American products.
Mexico is upset with the Obama administration for ending a program that allowed Mexican 18-wheelers to travel deep into the United States.
The Mexican government calls it a violation of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
Many Americans feel that Mexican trucks are unsafe.
Action 4 News spoke with local trucking company owner Ricardo Venecia.
The Valley businessman said he is concerned how the tariffs will affect his company.
"We'll probably offset some of the cost and the customer may offset some of the cost cause we've got to keep trucking," Venecia said.
The McAllen Economic Development Corporation (EDC) said it will not taking a position on the tariff because politics are at play.
EDC officials said they aren't really sure how much of an impact the tariffs will have here in the Valley.
