Palmview police and Hidalgo County Sheriff's Deputies are searching for two murder suspects after a man was killed early this morning.

The murder victim is a 63-year-old Hispanic man, believed to be an employee at Rio Queen Citrus.

Supervisors identified the victim as Walester Cerda, a man who most employees knew as "Don Wally".

According to Sheriff Lupe Treviño, the victim was an irrigation worker awaiting the end of his shift, when two men approached him and tried to rob him between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.

The robbery suspects demanded cash from the worker, and he reportedly swung at them with a machete.

That’s when the two Hispanic suspects, between 17 and 19 years old, shot the man in the chest and killed him.

One of the suspects was wearing a sweater with a white cap.

The other was wearing all black.

They were last seen traveling in a light blue minivan.

A similar armed robbery occurred twenty minutes before the Rio Queen Citrus crime at 4 Mile Line and Minnesota.

Sheriff Treviño said the suspects in that crime were traveling in a brown SUV.

The robbery victim was a 14-year-old boy.
