REYNOSA, TAMPS. -- A Mexican police officer is fighting for his life after being shot by a prisoner he was transporting.
Mexican media outlets reported the incident happened between two Tamaulipas State Police officers and two prisoners being transported to a local jail.
The El Mañana newspaper reported the incident happened around 2 p.m. Monday.
The newspaper reported that state police officers Jose del Monte Mora and Jorge Luna were transporting a group of inmates from the Reynosa Penitentiary Center to the Reynosa Prison.
The car was approaching Tamaulipas State Highway 2 when one of the prisoners disarmed his jailer.
Del Monte was shot in the arms while Luna was shot in the neck.
El Mañana reported that three prisoners fled the scene but two were captured.
Officer Luna remains listed in critical condition.
