Loaves and Fishes received two federal grants to help weatherize homes for low-income families in Cameron and Willacy counties.
Weatherization is the practice of making a building energy efficient.
Families with weatherized homes save about $350 per year on their utility bills.
Up to $4,000 will be available for repairs or equipment needed to weatherize each home.
Once a home qualifies, it may be eligible for the following energy efficiency measures:
Attic insulation
Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs)
Replacement Energy Star window unit air conditioners
Replacement Energy Star refrigerators
Duct sealing
Solar screens
Energy Star replacement ceiling fans
