A crime spree lasting more than 24 hours and spanning several valley cities comes to a tragic end in Harlingen when a 23-year-old woman is shot to death inside an H-E-B off US 77/Expressway 83 in Harlingen Wednesday night.
Sources close to the case say Moises Gonzalez and Maura Marroquin had been staying at the La Quinta across the street from the H-E-B in Harlingen.
Sources say somehow Marroquin managed to escape and ran into the store trying to get help.
Authorites who watched the surveillance video say that's when Gonzalez followed her inside shooting her once in the back.
That's when a customer tried to stop the shooting by throwing wine bottles at Gonzalez, but then Gonzalez shot at him.
Sources say that's when Gonzales fired the fatal shot into her chest.
As soon as the shots rang out, people headed for cover, some making a dash for the exits others simply dropped to the floor.
One witness outside waiting for her husband says she saw Gonzalez with gun in hand calmly walk out of the store and get into the passenger side of a black Cadillac.
Gonzalez then took the car on a high speed chase up and down the expressway into oncoming traffic between Bass Boulevard and Texas Blvd in Weslaco.
Sources close to the case say they were able to track down Gonzalez in the car, because the Cadillac had OnStar.
That’s where Action 4 crews spotted police attempting to shoot out his tires.
Gonzalez then drove the Cadillac into one entrance of the Wal-Mart, tearing through the cash registers and running into shopper before crashing halfway through the exit.
Police confirm Gonzalez then shot himself in the head and died on the way to the hospital.
Six people were injured by the vehicle, but only sustained minor injuries.
Action 4 News has video of both crime scenes as well as exclusive video of the Valley wide chase that began Tuesday and ended so tragically Wednesday night, hours before the New Year.
