CHICAGO (AP) -- Even though it's gotten cheaper to go over the river and through the woods, fewer people plan to do so this Thanksgiving weekend.
Triple-A predicts the number of people going at least 50-miles away will be down about 600,000 compared to last year.
And even though the cost of gas is lower than it's been in years, the state of the overall economy has some people staying home.
That's especially true among air travelers. Even though fares are down, all the fees the airlines have been socking people with has Triple-A expecting a 7.2 percent drop in passengers this weekend.
The agency points out fees for things like checked bags can add up, to the point families have to pay more than the cost of what another ticket would be.
