Gonzales maintained a strong lead throughout the night.

She received 23,403 votes or 65 percent of the ballot with 35 out of 35 precincts reporting at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Republican challenger Javier Villalobos received 12,004 votes or 33 percent of the ballot.
