Democrat Veronica Gonzales defeated two challengers to keep her seat as Texas State Representative for District 41.
Gonzales maintained a strong lead throughout the night.
She received 23,403 votes or 65 percent of the ballot with 35 out of 35 precincts reporting at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday.
Republican challenger Javier Villalobos received 12,004 votes or 33 percent of the ballot.
Libertarian candidate Charles W. Snelling received 670 votes or 2 percent of the ballot.
Gonzales told Action 4 News that she won based on her ability to build coalitions in one of the Rio Grande Valley's most politically diverse districts.
