WASHINGTON (AP) -- Record number of voter expected to deluge polls.
Beyond the legal challenges, monitoring by attorneys for both parties and the usual paper jams, a few other problems have been reported during early voting in today's national elections.
Voters in some New Jersey precincts were forced to use paper ballots because of problems with electronic voting machines.
In Virginia, voters waiting in line at a neighborhood precinct were forced to wait a bit longer after the head of the local library branch overslept.
John McCain's campaign has also sued the Virginia electoral board to force that state to count late-arriving military ballots from overseas. McCain wants the absentee ballots arriving as late as November 14th to count.
And then there's the pressure from so many newly registered voters that are adding to the burden of local election officials.
One official with Common Cause says while the system is set up for a traditionally low voter turnout, there aren't a lot of new resources to deal with the crush of new voters.
