Donna Independent School District officials spent Friday morning easing parents' fears.
Rumors circulated across the Hidalgo County town that a student or students would retaliate for the gang-related death of 16-year-old Oscar Jimenez.
Many concerned parents called this district on Friday morning based on rumors that gang members would bring a gun to Donna High School.
Parents have been streaming in to pick up their children but Donna ISD officials said the rumors are not true and that parents have no reason to fear for the safety of their children.
Donna ISD officials said their schools are not under lockdown as the rumors have stated.
School district officials told Action 4 News that they have heightened security at the Donna High School and the district's ninth-grade campus as a precaution.
There is also increased security at tonight's home football game against the Rio Grande City Rattlers.
