A new get-out-the-vote campaign kicked off in the Rio Grande Valley this week.

"Mi Familia Vota" is knocking on doors and making phone calls to encourage infrequent voters to hit the polls.

The campaign is targeting over 25,000 voters in 43 voting precincts in both Cameron and Hidalgo counties.

Marta Sanchez with La Union del Pueblo Entero (LUPE) said they hope to drive turnout for the November general election.

"I think it's good," she said. "I really think that this campaign is different because we are targeting the low-propensity voters."
