A group of veterans is taking action.
They are fed up with what they call widespread corruption in Hidalgo County after several law enforcement officers were taken down by the FBI.
The armed group of veterans say they're taking action to fight corruption in the Rio Grande Valley.
They call themselves the "American Protection Specialists."
Their guns are no toys and the men who own them say they are not playing around.
A.P.S. is after the group of law enforcement officers accused of corruption.
Former Hidalgo County Sheriff's candidate Robert Caples is part of the group of former servicemen.
"They've been coming back from the war to witness corruption on a grand scale. They've seen the worst.
These people are professionals and they're not afraid of anybody," said Caples.
One of the men accused of helping to move drugs across the border is the son of Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino, and with all of the alleged crimes happening in his jurisdiction, A.P.S. wants the sheriff out.
"He is going to step down while he still has a chance to leave with his head a little bit up if you could say."
If not, Caples says A.P.S. will disclose the alleged incriminating information they have about Sheriff Trevino to the public.
The group already posted videos to YouTube.
"We're not afraid of anybody. We're not afraid of any politician. Any dirty politician," said Caples.
Caples says their mission is to protect the border, to stop what's going on, one way or another.
According to him, the corruption is geared toward helping cartels.
"Its being influenced by cartels coming in from Mexico," said Caples.
Federal documents show Mission Police task force officer Alexis Espinosa, the son of the Hidalgo Police Chief, admits to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers that he protected and escorted loads of drugs.
A.P.S. says these officers are only a few bad apples and doesn't want the public to get the wrong idea.
"The good cops in this county still outnumber the bad cops ten to one," said Caples.
Caples told Action 4 News, "You know corruption is bad when the bad guys are giving you information to bring down the dirty cops."
He says they get that kind of information all the time.
Caples says he is not speaking out for any political gain, insisting that he's not fit for elected office.
