A Harlingen man is behind bars after being accused of sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl back on the 4th of July.

It's been nearly five months since the alleged sexual assault happened in the outskirts of Harlingen.

But Cameron County Sheriff’s Department deputies didn’t have any trouble finding suspect Robert Lee McCormick.

The 32-year-old man was already behind bars for two other crimes.

Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio said it took about four months for the girl to come forward but finally made an outcry in early October.

McCormick allegedly drove with the victim past the Harlingen city limits to Jimenez road near U.S. Highway 281 where he allegedly raped the girl.

Harlingen police had arrested McCormick last week for failure to identify and a probation violation for a DWI charge in Austin.

Public records show that McCormick lived off Rangerville Road and had a criminal history that included DWI, marijuana and possession of a controlled substance going back to 1998.

Authorities arraigned McCormick on an aggravated sexual assault charge on Monday afternoon where he was given a $50,000 dollar bond.
