A Valley high school student reported missing was found dead on Tuesday.

Action 4 News spoke with the family of 17-year-old Javier Nerio, Jr.

The mother told Action 4 News Nerio didn't return home last Wednesday.

She reported him missing to the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department after rumors from students at Ignite Public School in Edinburg said that Nerio had committed suicide.

According to family members, they reported it to deputies, but they did not respond.

The family claims a student told Nerio’s uncle where the family could find him- inside a horse stable in rural Hidalgo County.

The family searched the area near Monte Cristo and Texan Road where Nerio was claimed to be. Inside they found the teen allegedly hanging.

Action 4 News contacted the sheriff's department for information on this case, but our calls have not been returned.

On Tuesday the family received a letter in the mail allegedly from Nerio. The mother claims that the letter was not written in his handwriting and the signature did not match his penmanship.

The family told Action 4 News that authorities are not releasing any information to them. They said they want answers.

There is a benefit in Edinburg planned to help the family pay for funeral expenses.

On Friday at noon a Bar-B-Que fundraiser will be held at the La Hielera Meat Market Parking Lot on W. Monte Cristo Road.

The school has counselors in place to help students cope with Nerio’s death.

The school will also be holding a presentation on suicide prevention.
