Details released about fatal landlord-tenant dispute

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department has released more information regarding the San Carlos shooting that happened on Thanksgiving Day.

The investigation revealed that Duane Lopez, fatally shot Fransisco Salinas Nieto after Salinas stabbed Lopez.

The two men had gotten into a landlord-tenant dispute when Salinas stabbed Lopez with a knife.

After being stabbed, Lopez took out a gun and shot Salinas more than once in the upper torso.

Salinas, 31-years-old, is an illegal alien from Veracruz or Tampico and Lopez, 49-years-old, is a U.S. citizen with no criminal record.

Lopez  has been treated for his injuries and released from medical care.

Investigators are looking to see if it is a justifiable homicide as a result of self defense.

The shooting happened on Thanksgiving around 7:20 p.m. at JNE Mechanic Shop in San Carlos. 

Both the knife and handgun used in the stabbing/shooting have been recovered.
