Authorities are asking for the public's help in finding a man who punched a UTPA student in order to steal her iPhone.

It all happened inside the university library on Tuesday afternoon.

The UTPA Police Department reports that the student was on the second floor of the library when a man started speaking to her.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the idle conversation took a violent turn when he grabbed her cell phone and punched her in the stomach before fleeing the scene.

The suspect is described as:

• Possibly white male
• Between the age of 30-40
• Long black pulled back hair
• Wearing khaki pants and black t-shirt

UTPA police are asking students and staff to be aware of their surroundings at all times.

Investigators are encouraging iPhone and iPad owners to activate the GPS feature that allows owners to find stolen or lost devices.

Otherwise, police recommend that victims let their property go without a struggle adding that it's not worth being harmed or killed fighting an attacker.

Anyone with information about the library robbery is asked to call campus police at (956) 665-7151.
