A Harlingen dad is facing criminal charges after his 2-year-old son wandered out of the house and on to a busy street.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested 26-year-old Nicholas James O'Donnell on Saturday.

Court records released show that a man found the 2-year-old boy wandering off Wilson Road and Augusta Drive around 8 a.m. Saturday.

Deputies were interviewing the man when O'Donnell arrived.

O'Donnell allegedly told deputies that the boy's mother went to work and left the boy with him at their Preston Trail home.

The Harlingen man said he was watching television and listening to music and didn't notice the boy had left the house.

The boy made it two blocks from their house and on to Wilson Road, which is a busy street with cars driving 50 mph.

Cameron County Jail records show that O'Donnell has been released after posting a $10,000 dollar bond.
