A man faces Intoxication Assault after he fled from the scene of a car accident that injured four people.

Juan Machuca was driving with his wife on Sam Houston Street when he struck another car from behind.

He left the scene before San Benito police officers arrived.

The victims in the car that was hit, a woman and two children, were taken to a nearby hospital for their minor injuries.

The woman described the car as being a 1999 or 2000 White Chevrolet Truck.

Cameron County sheriff deputies contacted San Benito police after they saw the suspected vehicle with a damaged front end.

When an officer arrived, sheriff deputies already had Machuca in custody. He had a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon that still remains under investigation.

Authorities saw that Machuca’s wife had a severe laceration to her forehead that was bleeding profusely.

Authorities could also see that Machuca was highly intoxicated. He admitted to drinking alcohol just before getting behind the wheel, but said he did not remember the accident.

Machuca’s wife was treated for her injuries.

Machuca was placed under arrest.

He was charged with four counts of Intoxication Assault and his bond’s were set at $10,000 for each count.
