An abandoned home in Mercedes was destroyed early Tuesday morning after catching fire.

Firefighters responded to the home on the 600 block of Georgia Avenue around 1 a.m.

Residents close by told Action 4 News that they knew who used to live in the home, but had not seen anybody there since they moved.

One neighbor said that her mother knew the people living there, but they had moved four or five months ago.

Investigators are still unclear as to what caused the fire.

Action 4 News will provide more details once new information becomes available.
