It's not your typical toy drive.

People from across the Rio Grande Valley saddled up their horses and put on their riding boots for the 13th annual Juan Tovar Toy Drive.

These cowboys and cowgirls made the trek from Harlingen to Sebastian.

It's a country Christmas that has grown tremendously over the years.

"It just grew, and grew, and grew,” said Mike Trejo, a sponsor and participant of the toy drive for the past four years. “Now, there are several people from the community that are donating bicycles and toys, wanting to go out and make it a better and more memorable Christmas for these kids."

Several different trail ride clubs came together for this event, making Christmas for the children of Sebastian a little brighter.

"This one here will go through the parade in Sebastian and they'll deliver [toys] to the children in Sebastian,” said Trejo. “That's Juan's hometown, and he wants to give back to his community there."

Every participant at the Juan Tovar Toy Drive brought at least one toy in order to take part in the trail ride.

Last year alone, every child in the town of Sebastian received five to seven gifts a piece, and it's only expected to get even bigger each year.

"If we can put a smile on a young child's face, that alone is priceless,” said Trejo. “But what we're doing here is we're uniting all together, so we can make a positive difference in this community and for our children. Our children are our future."

The trail ride groups say they not only give back to their communities during the Christmas holidays, but do so for children and needy families all year round.
