Tuesday marks the 40th anniversary for Roe vs. Wade, when the U.S. legalized abortion.

But even after all this time, Planned Parenthood continues to struggle to provide certain services.

Patricio Gonzalez CEO of Planned Parenthood Association of Hidalgo County said the states are to blame.

“Some states are putting in barriers and extra things that make it very difficult for women to exercise their constitutional right,” said Gonzalez.

Following the current budget cuts it makes it harder for women that can’t necessarily afford health assistance, and when they do Gonzalez said they have to deal with unnecessary situations.

“Extra waiting times extra procedures that invade a woman’s rights they have to have consent forms now they have to be read some information that may not be medically sound so those things discourage women from exercising their rights so many of the states are chipping away at it,” said Gonzalez.

The community speaks out and has mixed emotions.

Alexis Ruiz said doctors should consult a woman and try to help them make the choice of keeping a baby by educating them.

“I think in away it helps because sometimes a person may feel bad when they see that and I don’t think it should be right to abort,” said Ruiz. "Every child born should be wanted if the mother to be doesn’t feel she can provide for the children than thats there choice that’s a very hard decision to make and the only person that can decide that is the person that is pregnant.”

According to the 2012 Gallup Poll, 77 percent of Americans think abortion should be legal in some or all circumstances.
