The attorney for Carlota and Javier Salinas has spoken out about the attention the case is receiving.

Carlos Garcia said before the community passes judgment, they should know the facts.

Carlota and Javier were arraigned on Friday evening.  Carlota was charged with assault and her husband was charged with assault and injury to a child.

Both are accused of beating their 10-year-old and 15-year-old daughters on and off for three hours inside their Mission home on January 10th.

The attorney did not speak specifically about the case, but said that people should not decide their guilt or innocence and instead should leave that to the courts.

Carlota is a supervisor at Clinton Elementary in La Joya School District.

Administrators said they have been made aware of the charges and will follow policy, but would not go into details as to what that is.

Action 4 News did try contacting Mission Police Department as to why they have not contacted the school district, but our calls have not been returned.

The children have been removed from the home and remain with their grandparent’s at this time.
