Fans on both sides of the border are mourning the weekend death of singer Jenni Rivera.

The 43-year-old singer was known as the “Diva of Banda Music.”

Edinburg-based singer Bobby Pulido said he met Rivera at the Premios Lo Nuestro awards show.

Pulido said Rivera was an iconic singer and will be remembered like Selena.

The Valley-born musician said Rivera had a strong personality and stood up for what she believed in.

"I think there hasn't been a death as impactful to an industry since Selena like there is now,” Pulido said. “I think there is very similar in that sense very dramatic in her prime so it’s definitely something very shocking and very sad ."

Pulido said Rivera was always very nice and greatly missed.
