There is a changing of the guard at Edcouch Elsa Independent School District.

The school board decided Monday night to put Superintendent Frank Perez on administrative leave.

According to School Board Vice President Mark Lozano, several issues were brought to the board’s attention.

Lozano told Action 4 News the board felt Perez could no longer lead the district while under investigation.

While he would not go into specifics, he promised the community that mismanagement has been going on within the district and wants to put a stop to it.

“A number of issues, this wasn’t just one,” said Lozano. “Issues brought up by every single trustee, not just during his last three months in office but during his time as interim.”

When asked whether financial or legal issues were the reason, Lozano responded “a little bit of both.”

Lozano said the board will reveal the details behind their decision after the investigation is complete.
