He is a role model to countless generations of Americans across the country and will forever be recognized as one of the most memorable leaders in the African American community.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a leading activist throughout one of the nation's biggest civil rights movements ever seen.

Three years ago, the University of Texas at Brownsville started a service day to help beautify the community with the help of volunteers.

Heather Orlague and Pedro Rangel stopped by Action 4 Sunrise to tell you more and how you can get involved.

The UT Brownsville University Scholars program is looking for as many volunteers as possible to participate in their 3rd Annual Martin Luther King Day Service Event on January 21

It will be held at Dean Porter Park in Brownsville and participants have until Jan. 18 to register online.

To sign up, visit: www.2013utbmlkday.eventbrite.com.

For more information, contact Heather Olague at (956) 882-5775.
