As the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees prepare for a mass exit, a new hockey league is in the works.

Representatives from the city of Hidalgo and the State Farm Arena have received a letter of intent from investors of the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

The Killer Bees were apart of the Central Hockey League (CHL) and the NAHL can not use any of the previous team players.

The NAHL players are 16 to 20-years-old.

Coach Eric Blockie told Action 4 Sports the deal has been in the works.

It is expected to be finalized within 30 days of less, since the season kicks off in just a few months.

Sources told Action 4 Sports the operating expenses for the Killer Bees were getting out-of-hand since the closest competing team is in North Texas.

On Wednesday, the representatives for the Killer Bees announced they will not be operating for the 2012-2013 season.

There are NAHL teams already in Corpus Christi, Odessa Amarillo Austin and maybe soon in Laredo.
