If you're in the holiday spirit and want to have an event for the whole family to enjoy, what better way than by learning how to make a gingerbread house?

Gaby Jones, with the International Museum of Art and Science in McAllen, joined Sunrise to teach you how to put this festive holiday treat together.

What You Need:

-1 Empty, washed, pint-size milk carton

-6 Full rectangular sheets of graham crackers (some extra may be needed in

case of breakage)

-4 T white frosting

-Paper Plate

-Any desired candy: Peppermint Wheels, Smarties, M&M's, Chocolate Bars,

Gumdrops, Twizzlers, Mini-Marshmallows, Mini-Candy Canes, and Red

Hots...

Instructions:

1. Make sure the milk carton is closed. Place the milk carton on the plate and

secure it with a dollop of frosting.

2.Break the graham crackers in half. Have kids frost one side of each graham

cracker. Then have kids place each graham cracker frosting side in on each side

of the milk carton and press firmly to attach. Do the same for the roof of the

gingerbread house.

3. Have the kids decorate their gingerbread house using frosting to "glue" candy to

their house structure: Outline the roof with M&M's, add Peppermint Wheel

windows, line the walkway with Smarties etc...

Making gingerbread houses has been a time honored holiday tradition throughout

the ages. This version a great project for kids of all ages, is simple, quick, and easy

way to keep this tradition alive. All it takes is a little imagination and the

willingness to have fun!
