Before you take off on your next flight, you'll want to land the best bargain.

Since the advent of the Internet, that's often meant a trip to the online travel agencies like Orbitz and Travelocity. Or online aggregators like Kayak or Skyscanner.

But that may be changing. Airlines are really trying to get you to book your tickets with them these days. That's so they don't have to pay travel web sites like this one $10 to $25 commission per ticket.

Southwest airlines has long refused to pay commissions, and isn't on sites like Orbitz and Travelocity. Frontier airlines recently decided to follow suit.

Frontier recently announced that unless you book directly on their web site, you can pay higher fees and you're going to get half the frequent flyer miles. And go to these other major travel web sites and they're not going to disclose that.

Another way you might land a deal by dealing directly with an airline is following them on twitter, or signing up on their site - many are going to offer specials.

Bottom line? While the aggregators and online agents still serve a purpose, landing the best deal these days may mean a trip to an airline site. Next time you book, check them out as well. For more travel tips and deals, go to MoneyTalksNews.com and search for "travel."
