As many as 3,000 AEP Texas customers were without power Tuesday morning.

AEP spokesman Frank Espinoza spoke to Action 4 News about the power failures.

Espinoza said the outages were caused by moisture from this morning's fog and the build up of dust on the insulators on power lines and the substations.

Espinoza says dry conditions, coupled with strong winds created the buildup more regularly than they would like.

To avoid the situation, crews are out washing down the substations.

Espinoza says customers power loss Monday and Tuesday morning which lasted about a couple of hours.

If you experience an outage, you are encouraged to call the AEP outage hotline. That number is 1-866-223-8508
